Now Available: New 3DCS Version 8.1 Released by DCS

Jul 1, 2024 1:28:18 PM

The New Version of 3DCS - Version 8.1 - Is Now Available

The new version of 3DCS brings with it new features, updated functions, and quality-of-life improvements.

DCS is proud to announce the release of 3DCS Variation Analyst Version 8.1, as well as for 3DCS Design Variation Modeler (DVM) and 3DCS Mechanical Variation Modeler (MVM).

This new version contains four key new features that will help users across the globe:

1. New GD&T Distributions for Viewing Statistical Results
2. Design of Experiments for Model Variants
3. Language Localization
4. Compliant Black Box Assembly Modeling

Let's have a look at each of these -->

1. New GD&T Distributions for Viewing Statistical Results

DCS has continued to expand the distribution types that 3DCS can accurately simulate within a Diametrical Zone. It is common for users to request being able to use a different distribution than Normal for Positional tolerances so DCS has added 3 additional 2D distributions: Uniform (looks like a hockey puck, every location within the Diametrical Zone has equal likelihood), Cone, and Trapezoidal.

In the 8.0 release, 3DCS software received an update for additional distribution types, and 8.1 brings new 2D distributions to further enhance this feature. This provides the ability to view statistical outputs from 3DCS models in new ways that help illustrate the data and promote an easier understanding of distributions for new users.

  • 2D Uniform (Hockey Puck), Cone, and Trapezoidal distributions similar to existing 2D Normal (Sand Pile)
  • Supported in all GD&T with a diametrical zone and the Circular tolerance

2. Design of Experiments for Model Variants

3DCS software gives the users the ability to run Design of Experiments processes, which is a batch mode for running multiple analyses for comparing different models, layouts, or other variables.

Model Variants allows users to create different varieties of Moves, Tolerances and Measures, which the user can activate or switch between one or multiple different model scenarios.

This new update will allow users to run an analysis on all of their Model Variants at the same time, letting users quickly compare different variables in the same model to determine optimal methods.

3. Language Localization

3DCS software is used across the world by manufacturers in every industry. As such, it is helpful for local users to be able to see the software options in their preferred language.

3DCS software now supports additional language customization for the user interface as well as the Ribbon, Dialogs, Reporting, and Tooltips. This first level of language customization includes Simplified & Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, and Spanish.

4. Compliant Black Box Assembly Modeling

3DCS Compliant Modeler is an add-on module for 3DCS Variation Analyst that allows the connection of a Finite Element Analysis software to 3DCS, as well as the application of FEA meshes and matrices to add forces and material properties to 3DCS models. This essentially combines a dimensional analysis and a Finite Element Analysis into a single activity, with the outputs showcasing the FEA results across all possible dimensional possibilities.

This combination of analyses requires additional computational resources which may put a strain on the user's hardware. To support the creation of these large models, 3DCS now provides Compliant Black Box Modeling.

Black Box Modeling combines sub-assemblies into single parts, using the analysis results to provide values for the combined part's influence on surrounding structures. This allows for large, complex models to use less hardware while still achieving the same results.

  • Overcome the RAM limit for super-large models when modeling assembly-level operations
