We had a great time in Montreal at the Aerotech 2013 conference. Being aerospace targeted, there was a big showing by major OEM's such as Boeing, Airbus and of course Bombardier, who sponsored the show this year.
Speaking to professionals in all areas of manufacturing, from tolerance analysis and CAD designers, to quality professionals, and R&D researchers, we were able to see how the aerospace industry is racing ahead. New technologies, especially in simulation, abound.
Sharing a booth with our partner, InspectionXpert, the goal was to demonstrate how the combined tools of DCS and InspectionXpert could come together to form a quality assurance system to not only provide statistical process control (SPC) but more importantly, to automate quality processes that are traditionally time consuming and repetitive.
The primary automation demonstrated was the creation of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR). These quality documents are required for parts in the aerospace industry, and can be labor instensive to produce. With InspectionXpert's quick ballooning and authoring tool, it is a simple task to create a FAIR template. That same template can then be setup in the QDM system, DCS SPC and quality management system, to be automatically populated by your enterprise's data.
With the ability to setup automatically generated reports, users can have their FAIR documents waiting everyday with the most recent data, can create new ones with selected data sets or keep the template handy and generate them in seconds as needed.
What it all comes down to was this. Engineers and professionals have to do a lot more with a lot less these days. In every job, people are multi-tasking more and being expected to handle multiple roles. With so much to do, aerospace professionals cannot waste time drafting and authoring reports by hand. When a week's worth of effort can be done in seven seconds with the push of a button, there doesn't seem to be any doubt that QDM is the right choice for your business.
